Monday Aug 31st, 2009 - Sam went to ECVR for surgery with Dr. Stoll. Following an emotional goodbye leaving Sam at ECVR we stopped by Hanover Regional Animal Hospital to see if Dr. Thompson had the test results from Sam's lymph nodes.
We didn't think the results were in but we had a bill to pay from Thursday's ultrasound so we asked about the results. Julie, the receptionist at Hanover Regional Animal Hospital looked at the results and then as us. She refused to tell us what they said but let Dr. Thompson know we were there and needed to see the results. After a short wait, Dr. Thompson came into the lobby of Hanover Regional Animal Hospital and gave us the cancer news while other customers were arriving for their appointments. I was amazed that she would deliver such horrible news in the lobby but she did and just sat there while we cried and cried. Turns out she had the results on Friday but didn't call then or over the weekend. She said the diagnosis wasn't always bad - her best friend's dog that she'd been treating had the same exact cancer & he'd lived a year and died of an unrelated cause. So...she had a dog in her personal care with the same cancer and she failed to apply those symptoms to Sam and catch his cancer early? At this point, the news in the lobby & the evidence that she had a very similar case she'd failed to apply to our case, that I knew we would not return to Hanover Regional Animal Hospital. Too late for Sam but Mushka would not be returning to this mediocre veterinarian.
Dr. Stoll called late in the day to let us know Sam's surgery went well and he was in ICU recovery.
