Sat. Nov 14th - Dr. Williams from ECVR called today to give us an update on Sam. His calcium came down again. It is 10.3mg/dL which is good news but two other mineral levels are still low - Phosphorus = 2.4mg/dL and Magnesium = 0.8mEq/L. His potassium is back in the normal range at 3.8mmol/L. The magnesium test has to be shipped to
Antech labs to be processed so the results are a day behind. They didn't start administering the magnesium until late Friday morning so we've yet to see a lab result showing improvement based on what they've given him. Hopefully, Sunday's results will show improvement. Another item on his blood work that Dr. Williams discussed was his Creatinine level. This was 1.9mg/dL, Creatinine is an indicator of renal function. We do seem to be trading one good result for another but hope to find a balance soon. He said he thought Sam could come home Monday.
We visited him twice today for at least an hour each time. The midday visit he enjoyed a lot of time outside while the evening visit he got some much needed sleep. Both visits, he ate hamburger and seemed to be feeling better. He didn't need any help walking. We appreciate how kind the vet techs are to him and know they are taking good care of him. He seems to have won them over with his kind spirit and sweet eyes. We still are looking forward to bringing him home.
