Sam on Prednisone & home

Wed. Sept 23rd - Vet tech called with calcium. Today's #s = 11.8
It came down due to the high volume of IV fluids they are giving Sam and possibly the Prednisone. They also gave him an appetite stimulant which helped him eat when Steve visited at lunch.

We picked him up at 4:30pm. The Vet Tech gave us three 1000 mL sodium chloride fluid bags. They asked us to give him 1000 mL each day but only ½ today since he'd been on the IV most of the day. They also gave us a supply of fresh needles. Great, we spring our pup from the pen & he comes home an addict. A pile of needles on our kitchen counter is a new sight for us but if it helps Sam & lets him be home more we'll do what it takes.

Dr. Stoll said she noticed Sam having more energy today which encouraged us but when we came home he just drank a lot and has slept almost the entire time. She also mentioned Palladia again and seems to have high hopes for the possibilities. We still need to schedule the Palladia apt with Dr. Rushlander for next week but needed a day of plain ol'Sam lovin' after yesterday. No luck with any food at dinner but we were able to give an antibiotic & Prednisone. We called ECVR and asked that we be given some appetite stimulant for him. His hind legs are noticeably weak, esp. his right leg. He is dragging his right leg slightly and his balance is off. Hope this isn't the high calcium causing his muscles to be weak already.
His temp = 102.2

Scheduled to go back Thursday AM for blood draw to check his calcium. Steve plans to take Sam to work with him Thursday.
Sure is good to have him home!
