Fri. Nov 13th - The Vet faxed Sam's blood results & his calcium came down to 12.2mg/dL!
Steve saw Dr. Stoll at lunch when he visited Sam and they discussed how much his calcium came down but that his magnesium 0.9 mEq/L & potassium 3.2mmol/L (electrolytes) are low. They have already started him on IV supplements but he will need to stay at ECVR over the weekend to be monitored. He ate some hamburger for Steve at lunch.
Dr. Stoll called me at work later in the day, we discussed how impressed she was with how far his calcium came down. The normal range is 7.9-12.0mg/dL so he is still high but much better than 15 or 16. She isn't as worried about the low potassium as the magnesium. She also explained that we should see how long the Pamidronate will keep his calcium down and keep the Prednisone as an option.
We visited Sam this evening and were happy to see his back legs are already gaining strength. He did not eat for us but the vet techs said he'd eaten earlier in the day.
