Mon. Nov 9th - We gave Sam 1000 mL of fluids, ½ a Mirtazapine, one Prilosec & two Sucralfate. Steve took Sam to ECVR this morning for this weekly blood draw. They faxed the results to us at 1pm and his calcium is higher than it has ever been at 16 mg/dL. We immediately texted Dr. Ruslander to see if we could start him back on the Prednisone. He called back & explained that we should try Pamidronate, a bisphosphonate, that could help bring down his calcium level. We had to make the decision to take Sam back to ECVR & start him on IV fluids. We were not able to discuss this option with Dr. Stoll since she was in surgery. Late afternoon, we decided to take him back to ECVR. When we dropped him off he was trembling, he may have picked up on our emotions. Late this evening Dr. Stoll called and we discussed the plan for the next few days. Turns out it will take her a few days to acquire the Pamidronate so all they can do at this point is push fluids & reevaluate the calcium level in a day. We took Sam some bologna & granola along with some of his Rx but didn't visit him this evening.
A very emotional day.
