GI Sam

Thurs. Oct 8th - Following Dr. Ruslander's advice Wed. night Steve took Sam to ECVR for a CBC & chemistry panel. Luckily, Steve was able to work from home today to keep an eye on Sam. Dawn at ECVR faxed the blood results to me at work and to Dr. Ruslander at VSH. When we didn't hear back from Ruslander we remembered Thursday is his day off. I then texted him the results. When we didn't hear back from the text, I called him and we reviewed the results. His calcium is the lowest we've seen in weeks. His RBC, HCT & HGB were all low mostly likely due to his GI issues. Ruslander recommended we stop the Prednisone to further allow Sam's GI tract time to heal. Sam continued to have black stools but they were not as severe as Wednesday. He ate goldfish crackers, toast, carrots & liver treats but is still not eating regular meals. We gave him 1000 mL of fluids.

Steve leaves Friday for our annual WWII Reunion & will be gone until Sunday. We're all going to miss him but one of us needs to honor our commitment to our Vets while the other stays here to honor our commitment to Sam & his Vets.
