Sam bruises - a day at ECVR
Tues. Jan 10th - We gave Sam 1000 mL of fluids, one Prilosec, one magnesium tablet, two Sucralfate, two Prednisone, & 9 Tramadol. I called ECVR first thing this morning to ask them to have Dr. Stoll check her email so she could see the photo of Sam's bruises. She called back rather quickly to say she was concerned the bruises were due to low platelets and that we should bring him in as soon as possible. Steve left work & took Sam to ECVR. Dr. Stoll called Steve at 4pm to let him know Sam was ok and that he could come home. They tested his platelets which were 146,000 - a little low, but not bad. His calcium is 11.1mg/dL which is within the normal range so she suggested delaying his bisphosphonate treatment until early next week. After talking with Dr. Stoll and thinking back over the last few days, we remembered that Sam fell on Saturday. He ran out the back door, thru the dog door, and then fell on the deck all while chasing a cat out of the yard. When he fell we both were concerned about his back leg but didn't even think bruising. In hind sight, we think the fall is what caused the bruises. Although, we both feel horrible that he fell at least we know what probably caused the bruise. It would've been worse if the bruise appeared with no possible reason.
