Dr. Stoll call

Wed. Jan 13th - We gave Sam 1000 mL of fluids, one Prilosec, one magnesium tablet, two Sucralfate, two Prednisone, & 12 Tramadol. Sam slept comfortably thru the night Tuesday. Sam wasn't interested in playing with Mushka at lunch but seemed to be feeling ok. Tonight was bath night and he enjoyed that as well as the post bath warm towels.
Dr. Stoll called today to discuss her research for possible causes of the bruises. She doesn't think it is his low platelets and has called several colleagues to ask their opinion. There are several remote causes that we don't think fit his situation. We agreed to limit his activities and monitor the bruises. For now we are planning the next bisphosphonate for next Tuesday.
We'd known she was going the extra mile for us but after the chat tonight we have a new appreciation. Turns out she normally focuses solely on surgery but for Sam she has taken on additional responsibility. She said she'd learn more from researching/providing Sam's care than any other dog since she moved to Wilmington. Wow, we knew Sam was special but to hear that our Vet agrees and wants to learn more to help him is very comforting. Sam has made an impression on most folks that have met him - what a sweet pup!
